1. Postdoctoral fellowship in USA institution

Subject area
The position is within Biology/Biochemistry/Environmental Science.

Background
We seek a postdoctoral researcher within the field of environmental sciences and engineering to work in a multidisciplinary project involving the investigation of fungal-bacteria interaction in soils. In this investigation, we are using OMICS tools, including metabolomics and transcriptomics, as well as growth and microscopic investigations to determine the interactions between bacteria and fungi in soil. We want to identify the mechanisms of communications between bacteria and fungi as well as their role in each other growth and fitness. The researcher will investigate the role of endo and exobacterial interactions with different fungal isolates obtained from soil and interacting with plants.

Duties and responsibilities
The position as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree, to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills. The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily in charge of the growth and experiments with fungi. Also, the postdoctoral fellow will be responsible to analyze volatile organic compounds (VOCs) via GC/MS, so good GC/MS instrumentation knowledge is important, as well as having skills working with microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi. If the student has also molecular biology skills, such as transcriptomics and metagenomics, it will be a beneficial. Some bioinformatics knowledge would be beneficial as well. The researcher shall spend his or her working hours mainly on research but will be also responsible for the technical and administrative day-to-day management of students working in the project.

Assessment criteria
The researcher should have a strong background in the field of microbiology or biochemistry. Besides, the candidate should have some experience in transcriptome and metabolome.
