1. 18th International Conference on Luminescence
It is a great pleasure and privilege that the Organizing Committees of the 18th International Conference on Luminescence invite the worldwide community of luminescence research to participate of the ICL 2017. The conference will be held at the Poeta Ronaldo Cunha Lima Convention Center in João Pessoa, Paraíba State- Brazil, from August 27th to September 1st 2017.
The conference covers the most relevant aspects and the state-of-the-art of luminescence phenomena in all classes of materials, including inorganic, organic and hybrids, bulk, nano and micro structured, insulators and semiconductors, crystalline and amorphous materials. Hitherto the ICL conference has been well organized in different countries in the North Hemisphere of the world: Budapest (Hungary, 1966), Delaware (USA, 1968), Saint Petersburg (Russia, 1972), Tokyo (Japan, 1975), Paris (France, 1978), Berlin (Germany, 1981), Madison (USA, 1984), Beijing (China, 1987), Lisbon (Portugal, 1990), Storrs (USA, 1993), Prague (Czech Republic, 1996), Osaka (Japan, 1999), Budapest (Hungary, 2002), Beijing (China, 2005), Lyon (France, 2008), Ann Arbor (USA, 2011) and Wroclaw (Poland, 2014).
It is the first time that ICL will be hosted in the South Hemisphere and João Pessoa-Brazil is definitely ready to continue this prestigious tradition. João Pessoa is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Brazil. It is located in the Northeast of Brazil, in the easternmost point of Americas, being known as the city where the Sun rises first. Its 40 km of tropical beaches with warm seawater (~26 °C) makes the tourism one of João Pessoa's chief economic activities. Besides, it is considered "the second greenest in the world" with more than seven square kilometers of forested land. The city is characterized by the juxtaposition of tropical beaches, modern architecture and historic buildings from colonial periods, like the Baroque style Saint Francis Church (1589) and Saint Anthony Convent (1779).

2. 5th French Brazilian Meeting on Polymers
After the great success and impact of the previous editions (2005, 2008, 2011 and 2014) we are proud to announce the 5th French Brazilian Meeting on Polymers, to be held in Florianópolis – Brazil.
The goal of this conference is to bring together scientists and engineers from universities, industries and government institutions to exchange views on the latest developments, uses and applications of polymeric systems.
The Conference will provide the Brazilian and French polymer communities with an opportunity to meet and discuss the mission and challenges of new (bio)materials and (nano)technology for the 21st century. This conference will cover a broad range of topics in the area of polymer science and consist of invited lectures,main lectures, poster sessions and exhibitions.
Brazilian and French students (MASTER and PhD levels) are particularly invited to participate (POSTERS) to this conference where they can meet and discuss possibilities to bridge the Brazilian-French collaborations. Mechanisms for more efficient collaborations between Brazilian and French Universities will be pursued as part of the mission of the conference.

3. V Workshop de Química
É com grande satisfação que convidamos todos a participar do V Workshop de Química, que será realizado no Centro de Formação de Professores (CFP) da Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), em Amargosa – BA, nos dias 27 a 29 de outubro de 2016, dentro da Semana Nacional de Tecnologia, como tema: Química no Cotidiano. O evento tem o apoio de projeto aprovado pelo EDITAL APOIO A EVENTOS CIENTÍFICOS-2016/01 da PROEXT/UFRB.
O Workshop de Química, que neste ano está em sua 5ª edição, é um evento com abrangência regional, de caráter técnico-científico organizado por professores e alunos do curso de Graduação em Licenciatura em Química da UFRB. Esse evento permite a aproximação e interação da comunidade acadêmica, formado por professores e alunos de diversas instituições de ensino superior (UFRB, UFBA, UESC, UNEB, UESF, UESB, UFOB, dentre outras), com o Ensino Médio da região, professores da educação básica, profissionais liberais e a população em geral.
O workshop apresentará ao longo de três dias: palestras, oficinas temáticas, lançamento do 1º número da Revista Alquimia, minicursos, concurso de criação de Máquinas Térmicas, apresentação de trabalhos acadêmicos na modalidade de pôster e comunicação oral e entrega do Prêmio Maurício Tourinho ao aluno destaque do curso de Licenciatura em Química.
Não haverá taxa de inscrição para os alunos do Ensino Médio. Os organizadores solicitam apenas a contribuição dos participantes através da doação de um quilo de alimento não perecível, exceto sal, que serão doadas para instituições beneficentes de Amargosa.
