1. Postdoctoral fellow in Medicinal Chemistry - IQSC-USP
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellow in medicinal chemistry to join the team led by Prof Carlos Montanari at the University of São Paulo. The objective of the CNPq project is the discovery of novel cysteine protease inhibitors for treatment of Chagas disease which is caused by the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite and is endemic in South and Central America. Chagas disease is currently only treatable in the acute phase and the drugs used have unacceptable side effects so the position represents an excellent opportunity to make important contributions in the area of neglected tropical diseases.
Ideally, the candidate should have expertise in PK studies of cell inhibitors, cell-based assays using parasites (trypanosomatids) and mammalian cells. It is recommended to have some experience in flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy.
The post is funded by the National Council of Technological and Scientific Development - CNPq, and is available immediately for 12 months. The position will be in the Medicinal Chemistry Group of the Institute of Chemistry of São Carlos, IQSC/USP, Avenida Trabalhador Sancarlense, 400, São Carlos/SP, Brazil
