A call is open for a postdoctoral position to join the scientific team of a Project funded by the National Research and Innovation Agency of Uruguay titled "Development of novel anti-inflammatories based on psychedelics and cannabinoids as potential therapeutics for autoimmune diseases".
This project is part of the research topics of the Organic Synthesis Laboratory at the Faculty of Chemistry (Universidad de la República - Uruguay) involved in the Interdisciplinary Research Group on psychedelics ARCHE (https://arche.ei.udelar.edu.uy) and includes a collaboration with the Cellular Biology Unit of the Pasteur Institute of Montevideo.
The project proposes to explore the chemical space of psychedelics and cannabinoids, generating through modern organic synthesis strategies, analogues that will allow the tracing of anti-inflammatory structure/activity profiles. These compounds will be subjected to biological assays to estimate their anti- inflammatory potential and will be characterized according to their affinity for key receptors.
Position profile: The selected person responsible will be responsible for evaluating the cytotoxicity and anti-inflammatory activity of the synthesized compounds. In addition, he/she will be in charge of characterizing the functional activity of the lead compounds on receptors of interest. Also the position will involve supervision of students and participation in the intellectual and operational tasks of the team.
Training: Doctorate or equivalent training in the areas of biological sciences, biochemistry, medicinal
chemistry. Experience in biological assays and cell culture. Experience in the design and organic
synthesis of compounds will be considered.
Remuneration: Salary equivalent to that of an Adjunct Professor of the University of the Republic G3, 40
hrs.
Contract duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension according to financing opportunities.
Tentative start February-March 2024.
